I have always fantasized about picking players, owning a team, being a coach! I have always thought of myself as one as I watch the Raiders, Saints and Lakers on TV and yell at the coaches like what are you doing? Really Al Davis, you select the guy that can run the fastest but we have no idea who he is? Or of course yell at the refs like everyone does! I wish I had a secret headset that feeds into the coaches' headset so that I could tell them what they need to be doing like I know more than them!
Well with the wonderful world of Fantasy sports this is all a reality, in a way, for me! I have played two seasons of Fantasy basketball and Fantasy football. I am hooked on NFL!! And every year I seem to be lucky enough to draft my favorite player Marques Colston! Side, if you are in a NFL league with me you better not take Colston! You are likely to experience the meaning of Voodoo! I do live in Louisiana! Anyways, this year I have added a new role in my world of sports! I have become an MLB manager/ owner! I am participating in my very first Fantasy baseball league! This stuff is crazy confusing! I finally got the hang of the scoring! Hate the fact that defense is no help to me one bit.
Draft days are always fun for me! I am told that I have a pretty good team! I was able to get two of the guys that I had pre-planned to draft! Hate when someone steals a guy right from under me! I have him waiting in the wing. Ready to click that bottom as soon as it says Cali Jags on the clock. And ding, the guy ahead of me snatches my guy! Gone in a flash! Now I have to scramble to decide who to take next! I'm new to this baseball thing! I don't know all the guys!
Back to the point! My number one draft pick is none other than the Los Angeles Dodgers' Matt Kemp #24! I am too excited! Since I'm from LA and my team is called Cali Jags it is only right! I soon pick up three other Dodgers, pitchers Zack Grienke and Hyun-Jin Ryu. I'm pretty happy! It also amazed me on how many pitchers you have to draft! That seems to be where you get all your points! The other players' points are based off their batting averages, RBIs, HRs and stealing ability! You get two points if you steal a base successfully!
So my season is going good until Dodgers are up! Matt Kemp has a bad start to the season only getting me 15 points combined over the first two weeks! And no Home runs! Like hello, you are Matt Kemp! My number one draft pick! I didn't pay you the big bucks for nothing! He is slowly getting in the grove though! So first week in I get a few trade offers for my beloved first pick, Kemp! Everyone wants him because eventually he will get hot! Let me mention that I am the only girl in the league. So these fellas think I don't know much! Little do they know I do know a thing or two about sports! It is my passion! And I have my assistant manager, my Daddie, for advice! But did they really think I was going to give up my number one pick! C'mon man!
On April 11, Zack Grienke, the best pitcher I have, gets in a little scuffle on the mound and suffers from a broken collarbone! Thank you sir, all I need! My squad goes down hill from there! Going into the seventh week I'm 3-3! Not bad but not great! C'mon Cali Jags get it together! It's okay we will re-evaluate and make a come back! Grienke is making his way back. He played in the minor league game over the weekend and expected to hit the mound for the Dodgers tonight! C'mon and give mama a good game!
This Fantasy stuff is awesome! It just sucks you in and takes over your life. I am on my iPhone more now checking scores and reading up on my players. It is serious business when you become an owner/ coach!
